I never thought I would live in a time where fake news was accepted as real, where bizarre stuff with no factual basis was accepted as real, where people quite simply made stuff up & large numbers of people accepted it as real. How can we come so far & yet get more stupid?
The counterpoint is of course people saying stuff that is real which is then dismissed as fake. It’s amazing how often people say *evidence please* in response to that having accepted the BS without question or a call for evidence.
Maybe, having experienced the Age of Enlightenment we should look askance at technological advances, make a new phrase and declare this the Age of Illusionment.
I was never crazy about Orwell. I thought he was crude, unsubtle. Now I think oh god he was so far ahead of his time that being unsubtle was the point. You don’t need to do nuance in a binary age, you just need to shout loud and have huge numbers of bots shout along with you.
Please please please look into stuff. Don’t believe the first thing you’re told. Be inquisitive. Challenging. Ask why the person/bot saying what is said is saying it. Who are they supporting? Why? Who gains? What’s the agenda? Where does it lead humanity? Be open. Lies are real.
