Every BBC presenter, news reporter, weather person, commentator, camera operator, researcher, editor etc appalled that OUR BBC has been taken over by Tory agents should pick a day for a mass walkout. It really is time for us to #TakeBackControl
Well this Tweet landed well. Though some obvious exceptions-the hard right will be in full on ‘the BBC is hard left’ gaslighting mode. Just a reminder:
For those commenting that I just want 'lefties to take control', I don't want any side to 'be in control'. I think the BBC should be impartial, whilst recognising individuals might have personal leanings. But I don't want Tory donors/members being able to blatantly manipulate us

"most Ukrainians will want to stay in Ukraine, but if they leave they’ll want to be as close to their home country as possible in order to be able to come back in the future."
what a pile of cynical nonsense from @DominicRaab

theguardian.com/world/2022/mar

1 - the EU is 4,422,773 km2, the distance between Kyiv and London is 2400 km, Kyiv to Madrid is 3700km
2- has @DominicRaab heard about Easyjet, Wizz, Ryanair? It is faster and cheaper to travel to London than many cities in neighbouring countries by train/car
3- if I was working in the UK and my elderly parents were in Ukraine now, all I would want is for them to join me in the safety of my home, NOT for them to stay in a refugee camp alone somewhere near the border of Ukraine

“Taking Back Control!”
So what was that all about?
A few tycoons and Old Etonians getting more control over the rest of us?
Hedge funders escaping higher EU taxes?
Foreign corporations given the freedom to asset-strip the UK?

Let’s take a look.

A tale in which it turns out that sovereignty is not the same as power.
@FT: "The Johnson government intends to set out its plans for how to use Britain’s new regulatory freedom to diverge from the bloc’s rules— including on financial services —but has yet to provide details."
How is it possible to declare "equivalent" unknown future regulations, particularly when the government who refuses to tell you what they will be simultaneously announces its wish to diverge from your own? “A series of further clarifications will be needed [from Britain]
In particular regarding how the UK will diverge from the EU framework after 31st December"the EU Commission said in an explanatory document on the trade deal issued on 24 December"

Seriously @BorisJohnson
You can either control the epidemic or the epidemic controls you.
Feel free to plagiarise
#StayHomeTakeBackControl is a good slogan. #TakeBackControl brought you where you are. You have no valid reason not to use it, no valid reason to ease lockdown before you secure the needed requirements to control the epidemic.

Femi🙄 just knows 1/2 of all fish caught by UK boats is sold to EU countries and that a no-deal means that every single one of those fish will face a tariff that will make it unprofitable when we try to sell it.
So unless you want to eat them all...

#SoLongAndThanksForAllTheFish
If you want proof of just how much worse things can get for UK fishers...
These are the EU's standard tariffs on seafood goods from non-EU countries. That's a 9-23% tariff on half all fish caught by Brits if No-Deal happens this year!

seafish.org/media/publicat

For some reason, UK producers prefer business models based on getting their freshly caught fish to European countries rather than having to transport it to countries on the other side of the planet.

Has the Government published its negotiation strategy for the LONG TERM deal with the EU? No.
Do they have one? No.
Will the Tories agree a strategy and negotiate a permanent trade deal in the 12 months before December 2020 when negotiating the transition period took 3 years? No.
What does "facilitating movement of goods across" via "comprehensive... deep regulatory... cooperation" sound like to you?

Sounds to me like the government is signing us up to have the same laws as the EU so that goods can cross borders without checks. assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/upl

Only thanks to Brexit, we'll no longer have control over those laws. #TakeBackControl

Thread.
1/ Let' just 'deliver Brexit'? That's just fluff. Here's why:
Yes, the UK would 'Leave' the EU. But then nothing would change for years (transition period + multiple extensions - possibly until 2030 as that's how long a full trade deal takes to negotiate & ratify)...
2/ Except that, 'overnight' on Exit, the UK would lose 'all' its power in the EU (UK Commissioners, UK MEPs swinging votes in the European Parliament, UK govt veto in Council, etc). I worked with UK officials in Brussels: I saw our power first hand.
3/ After all those transition period extensions there would then be either a no deal 'hole' of (by this govt's own expert assessments) potential chaos and guaranteed huge economic loss, 'or' a trade deal. But a trade deal is still way 'less' than what we have now in EU.

This new deal ensures that we #TakeBackControl of our laws, borders, money and trade without disruption & establishes a new relationship with the EU based on free trade and friendly cooperation. #GetBrexitDone #TakeBackControl
This is a deal which allows us to get Brexit done and leave the EU in two weeks’ time, so we can then focus on the people’s priorities and bring the country back together again. #GetBrexitDone #TakeBackControl
This new deal takes back control. Under the previous negotiation, Brussels maintained ultimate control and could have forced Britain to accept EU laws and taxes for ever.

The consequence of that was that Nigel Farage became the face of the UK.

Dismissed from the room. #TakeBackControl Image
Three years of jingoistic nonsense sold by a cabal of millionaires, lapped up by a press determined to whip up xenophobic hate, all in the name of a freewheeling, world leading, global Britain, for us to be dismissed from the room while the adults talk.
Remember when we used to be a respected, pragmatic, alliance-building, influential presence on the world stage? Good times.

Currently in a traffic jam waiting to get in to the fake traffic jam.
This really is where a hundred lorries are gathering voluntarily to stage a fake traffic jam all the way to Dover to show the EU we are ready for no deal.

They said Brexit would mean more public money for the NHS.
Now leading Brexiteers (Daniel Hannan, Chair of Vote Leave) want it to be bought by private American businesses.

You keep saying that it would damage democracy to have more voting on this issue. But if the future of our country is really going to be based on this many lies... Democracy is truly dead.

This is an important moment. Clearly No10 are negotiating a “backstop” that makes the UK a permanent EU colony. We cannot escape EU laws & ECJ until they allow us to – which they may never do. That’s not what the biggest majority in our history voted for #NoColonyStatus 1/4
This backstop keeps the UK in the Customs Union, keeps Northern Ireland in the single market, and almost certainly enhances NI/GB checks. It *will* apply after 2020 unless the EU agrees it won’t. And they will only agree if we keep our rules in lockstep with theirs 2/4
This backstop closes off our options. It means we cannot have no deal / WTO or SuperCanada. Under either our rules could differ from the EU’s – so they will keep us in the backstop instead. It means, in fact, that the only possible deal is Chequers 3/4

1 What a quite remarkable week in the independent republic of Brexitlandia:
- the Government wins a vote to repeal the European Communities Act (which gives effect to EU law in the UK) even though the Maybot has said EU law will apply for at least a 2 year transition after we leave 😬
3 - Gov proposes legislating the day Brexit will happen even though it will happen in March 2019 automatically (unless UK & EU agree to extend it - but then UK may be stuck because legislating Brexit day may prevent the option of extending negotiations even if we want to do so)🙄
