Jim is a great editor, who's been at the helm for beautiful magazines full of fantastic pieces, both those that are "seriouso" (as he sometimes jokes) and eye-popping fun. Hell of a run. nypost.com/2018/09/13/gq-…

He never made a big deal of it, but Jim took over GQ when having a gay editor of a men's magazine was fairly radical. And he changed it from something totally bro-y to something much more nuanced and bold.

1/ After joining in the pile-on for @AP_Politics bad tweet, I want to back up and explain what @AP is, how vital it is to world-wide journalism, the strains that it is under and how they are representative of the greater journo crisis. If I mess any point up, please lmk...
2/ First, the @AP is a non-profit. It is not trying to meet insane shareholder demands. It is there to continue it's particular, insanely hard and important mission even as the news gets tougher to report and pay for.
3/ What is that mission? Well the AP has reporters and editor and photojournalists and videographers all over the world, and if every part of the country. It is, along with the BBC, one of the biggest most vital news gathering entities out there.

I would read a media story about why they continue to be so unrelentingly bad at this.
Is it weird AP rules? Is it one terrible editor? Is it a marketplace issue—needing to make content to appease their clients at more conservative papers? Is it just the worst and outdated “both sides” lazy assignment desk? All of the above?
In the actual piece, they lay out other things pretty sensibly. So this could just be a social media editor deciding to highlight the spiciest/worst bit of analysis in their. Whoops

(A microburst Twitter essay--to be finished before I'm done with my cough drop)

I just had an epiphany: #beautiful has become my new favorite word. That may seem strange given my circumstances. In June 2017 I was diagnosed with incurable stage IV #lungcancer.
I naively thought that maybe my lifetime of being a health and fitness junkie would insulate me from such a medical fate. Wrong. And So here I am, fifty-one years old and not sure how much time I have left on earth. I know I could, or maybe should, feel angry, cheated, jaded.
But I don't. I have this epiphany that my new favorite word is beautiful and I'm not sure why. There is nothing beautiful about what I've gone through since my diagnosis--lots of physical and emotional distress to be sure. But yet, I keep find
