Here's the core of the story - K.T. McFarland denied to Mueller that @GenFlynn told her he'd discussed "sanctions" with Russian Amb. KISLYAK

N.B discussing sanctions wouldn't be a prosecutable crime anyway, (though intentionally lying to the FBI about if you did or not would be)

McFarland's "revised" story to Mueller now says @GenFlynn made a "general statement" that "things were going to be ok" which "could" have been a reference to sanctions

COULD

And Mueller even accepts that story. She's in no legal trouble.

If those calls did relate to the election you'd know in 5 minutes, not 9 months

Good to know that Mueller's "leak proof" operation is still doing things by the numbers - very reassuring

FYI my read is: Mueller wants to lock in the 1001 lying case against Flynn even tighter just in case, by showing he spoke about his sanctions call to other people
