It doesn't matter if no concrete evidence comes out. If this works, everyone involved will be celebrated as heroes. Harry Reid admitted to lying about Romney's taxes, grunted "It worked, didn't it?" and media laughed and slapped him on the back.
Some people assume this stunt could really blow up in the Dems' faces. There is little reason to think so, no matter what occurs. At worst, the media narrative will be about deeply caring people getting a little overzealous while calling attention to a Very Important Issue.
Even if this all ended with concrete proof Kavanaugh's accusers are lying or one of them admitted it, DNC Media would respond by flooding the zone with hand-wringing pieces about a vicious "backlash" from pouncing Republicans that threatens to damage the noble #MeToo movement.
The media is already firing shots across the Republican bow that they'd better step carefully and avoid going too far in pushing back. Democrats know their media has their backs. They risk nothing with stunts like this, even if they blow up in the biggest way.
The question is whether VOTERS will punish Democrats for this stuff. DNC Media will work to minimize that risk. Dems aren't really worried about a backlash from deplorable Americans they hate. Only Republicans are expected to fear and indulge the other side's hardcore voters.
It's never a bad bet for Democrats to assume that Republicans will be unable to capitalize on an opening like this. Republicans can't fill the streets with protesters or instantly infuse pop culture with their talking points. It's very easy to intimidate them into backing off.
And once the GOP showed weakness by knuckling under to the absurd theatrics of Ford and her whack-job lawyers, the Dems smelled blood in the water. The most likely scenarios from here involve GOP doing things that will frustrate and dispirit their base, not energize it. /end
