I'm sorry to have to tweet this about a luminary of the human rights Bar but it appears that in his defence of Ken Livingstone Michael Mansfield QC may be slid into an antisemitic trope (that Jews see Israel as their government) thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/t… 
Mansfield is a sponsor of "Labour Against the Witch Hunt", which as far as I can tell entirely denies the antisemitism issue in Labour. It's website refers repeatedly to the "false anti-Semitism smear", they want the Labour Compliance Unit to be shut down labouragainstthewitchhunt.org/about/
Nb. You may remember that in Geoffrey Robertson QC's opinion on the IHRA definition there was initially a few major errors including that all Jews in the world are given Israeli citizenship "whether they like it or not". Similar to Mansfield's point
This keys into something which worries me, that human rights campaigners, who are otherwise sensitive to racism issues, have an antisemitism blind spot. As far as I can tell, none of UK's major human rights orgs have said anything about antisemitism on the left in recent years
I just had a look at Labour Against the Witch Hunt - which claims Michael Mansfield QC as a "sponsor". Not pretty. This isn't human rights and no self-respecting human rights advocate should be associated with it
There's loads more, e.g. - interviews with antisemite Gilad Atzmon... I really hope that Mansfield isn't involved
I'm kind of embarrassed as I think this all reflects badly on human rights lawyers generally. Can't help felling that if Labour Against the Witch Hunt related to any other form of bigotry (a) it would never have been supported by a supposed human rights champion (assuming he did)
and (b) people might be up in arms more about it. Anyway, we'll see I suppose
There is of course irony in Labour Against the Witch Hunt disproving its own case that all allegations of antisemitism are smears... by being blatantly antisemitic. Here's what Shami Chakrabarti said in her report about using the term "Zio" (which is just one thing they do)
