The #PeoplesVote is the Politicians' Referendum. And here's why ...

Different countries use referendums in different ways. At one end of the spectrum, we have the lovely Switzerland who have decided they want a system of referendums for just about everything...

...at the other end of the spectrum, you've for Britain which, as a rule, doesn't do referendums.

However, sometimes the UK DOES do referendums. Most recently for voting reforms, Europe and Scottish independence (although the last one was only in Scotland). The UK has two rules for referendums:

1) a big constitutional type issue
2) on which the politicians can't agree

This second bit is important. All these big issues are ones on which the politicians (who are elected to make decisions), recognise that they cannot make a decision - so they pass it back to the people.

The Brexit referendum had a flaw (ignoring the lies and the rule breaking) - it did not actually specify the choice. What does leaving look like? Even the most hardened Brexiter would quietly recognise that there are different versions of leaving. It was a sticking plaster.

The #PeoplesVote will put the actual deal on the table. And the reason it is necessary is because the politicians cannot decide what to do.

So next time @theresa_may says that it is a Politicians Vote, agree and point out that it's a "Politicians Are Incapable" Vote.
