Over the last decade, Obama-influenced Echo Chamber foreign policy analysis in media became utterly unserious—these guys good, those guys bad.

Designated bad guys don’t ever have reasons for doing what they’re doing; the good guys have nothing but “legitimate grievances.” (1)
This is a natural outgrowth of the way the Left sees domestic US politics—which is, itself, the logical extension of class struggle categories of oppressor and oppressed.

In the US, it’s usually some manner of “racist” or “sexist” etc etc. (2)
If these are the categories that are actually meaningful—oppressor and oppressed—foreign policy analysis gets really, really easy. You could have a child do it or, with some effort, even a Daily Beast or BuzzFeed journalist. (3)
By this point, the people writing and editing the news—the kids Ben Rhodes admitted to manipulating, who were 27-year-old former campaign reporters who “literally knew nothing”—are so used to seeing only oppressed/oppressor categories in foreign affairs, that’s all they see. (4)
So that’s a major reason why, for example, most commentary on Yemen only exists to lead you to a particular oppressor/oppressed narrative. Anything else is literally extraneous to the moral lesson. (5)
I don’t think it’s necessarily intentional or agenda driven, either—a large segment of people on the Left who comment on foreign affairs no longer process national interests the way they’ve been understood for 1000 years. (6)
Things as basic as (a) keeping shipping lanes open and secure from Iranian blackmail or (b) preventing rockets from raining down on your airport and cities aren’t just dismissed; the Left seems to think that these prosaic considerations are some kind of relic of a bygone age. (7)
I say that because these important considerations are not even mentioned!

Israel-watchers will find this scenario familiar: when Israel makes an incursion into Gaza to halt a barrage of rocket fire, the inciting event seems to disappear from media coverage real quick. (8)
I really do hope the Saudis and the Emiratis—not simply leadership, but the people—emerge from this with a better understanding of the Jewish State, and begin to reject the propaganda they’ve been fed mostly by the people who’ve made KSA their latest designated bad guy. (10)
