@SykesCharlie 1/ You (& of course the WS) have missed what Trump is about. Fortunately for the rest of us, your ossified point of view is being marginalized. Trump’s import is exposing the Left, fighting them, and winning.
@SykesCharlie 2/ Your economics, foreign and national security policies, your cultural perspectives, and your politcal tactics — they are all fighting the last war. The danger is not Trump, not in the least. The danger is the By Any Means Necessary left.
@SykesCharlie 3/ The By Any Means Necessary left is not new. It is not small. It is not irrelevant. It has taken hold of every liberal stronghold — including especially education and the Democratic Party. There are no Centrist Liberals - at least none are relevant.
@SykesCharlie 4/ Tell me where you are seeing even one of the following types of liberal: pro-life; pro- strong defense; anti- socialist; pro- capitalist; pro- Western tradition; pro- free speech; pro-judeo-Christan tradition. There are none.
@SykesCharlie 5/ There is already a war going on. The Left has been winning since Buckley was at Yale. The Left has been attacking and will never relent. The Bill Kristol/George Will/Mitt Romney conservative has never joined the battle except on an intellectual level.
@SykesCharlie 6/ Decency and debating are necessary but not sufficient to turn the tide. The stakes are all our liberties. All of them. Politics requires some bare-knuckle brawling. Trump voters - Rep, Indep, & Dem - recognize this and were ready for Trump when he appeared.
@SykesCharlie 7/ Any conservative who foolishly considered HRC a palatable or even responsible alternative to Trump can hardly be considered serious and deserves the irrelevance he has achieved. Maybe the GOP would have been better served by a more decent nominee.
@SykesCharlie 8/ What’s also true is that Trump won and we cannot be assured anyone else would have. There is nothing conservative about either losing, or abandoning the field of battle to the left. It’s also true that Trump is championing and advancing conservative policy.
@SykesCharlie 9/ You can have your decency and ideology, Mr. Sykes. I for one will fight for my rights and liberties. If that means Trump, then so be it. There is nothing I fear from Trump. It is the Left that terrifies me. I believe what is at stake is the Constitution, and nothing less.
