The Trump administration has been mass releasing people from immigration detention centers in an effort to increase fear before the election, creating an artificial strain on our shelter system, which is struggling to handle new releases.
Our staff was at the San Antonio bus station until midnight last night, where we met 20 people who’d been released from detention centers. Because they missed the last bus and the local shelters were full, they spent the night at the station.
Today, we helped these over 120 people get on buses.

We are doing our part by helping with transportation & booking flights for families. We helped book flights earlier this summer, spending over $500k to reunite people released from detention centers with their families.
As you continue to see images over the next few days of people in shelters, please keep in mind that this is completely manufactured. There hasn’t been an increase in people coming across the border. Instead, the administration wants to stoke fear, particularly to undermine...
the 1997 Flores statement that limits the length of time (approx 20 days) & regulates conditions under which immigration officials can detain children. This settlement is critical to the well-being of children & others seeking refuge at our border, we will defend it to our utmost
At RAICES, we believe that no one should be detained indefinitely. We will make every effort to fight for the those still in custody and those released, whether that’s fighting for them in court or helping them get reunited with loved ones.
