A Gun fetishist dove in to active shooter lock down @Dartmouth college thread tonight claiming to be a parent and harassing students trapped in their forms
“#Dartmouth “Mom” was more concerned with excusing guns for shooting than finding out where or how or if her kid was ok. “Mom” talked directly to kids in active shooter lock down and victim blamed them. It was cruelty.

Here I'm starting a separate thread which discusses the leaked Xafinity @TrinCollCam's assessment of #USS and the risks of DB for the sector as a whole, rather than @TrinCollCam in particular. 1/
A striking feature of the @Xafinity document is that it implies that the closure of DB to future accrual as a major source of risk to the sector as a whole. In fact, Secs 4.3 & 4.4 model the risks of closure of DB to future accrual in the near future. 2/
I.e., it models the risks to the sector if #USS had followed through on @UniversitiesUK's Jan 2018 proposal to (at least de facto) close the scheme to all future DB accrual and hence suddenly cease all future DB contributions, soon rendering the scheme cash flow negative. 3/

We really put the FUN in dysfunctional - Canada is a relatively small country on a population standpoint, but we are ever smaller if we are divided across provinces - @cdavidnaylor #CSPC2018
+ the majority of dollars in HERD come from universities, not federal. To note, provinces don't contribute much either, though Québec has been a model to follow.
Canada doesn't collaborate well across provincial borders, they work much more with international partners. We have a chance to knit #cdnsci closer together and make our science more national ➡️ we have a chance to realign

THREAD: I had to do some research on armed guards in schools, synagogues, etc. It's difficult - there is very very little research on armed guards and "active shooter incidents". Like basically no data. But what I was able to dig up shows a few things:
1) Where there are more guns, there is more gun violence and more deaths. Period. This is not new news. @MomsDemand @Everytown #Pittsburg #WeDeserveBetter
2) An FBI report analyzed 160 active shooter incidents between 2000 and 2013. The following data was presented:
In 45 of the 160 incidents where law enforcement engaged a shooter, law enforcement suffered casualties in 21 (46.7%) of the incidents (9 officers killed & 28 wounded)

Employees do the same. They hold on to jobs desperately. Some embezzle funds because they are not confident of another chance to "hammer".

A major difference bt conservatives & the rest of us is that conservatives, for some reason, prioritize hypothetical violence above actual violence.

E.g. A woman MIGHT be assaulted in a bathroom > forcing #trans ppl to use the wrong bathroom actually IS dangerous for trans ppl
Militarized police are justified and necessary, because cops MIGHT get hurt during an occasionally dangerous job they agreed & are paid to do > people of color actually, currently being killed by cops
A not-yet-baby MIGHT experience SOME primal form of pain for a moment > Rates of death during childbirth are higher when women don't have access to legal abortion
