Little #brexit thread
We’ve been fed ‘deal or no deal’ and are now told that May has a ‘deal’ in her pocket.
She hasn’t.
Even if she gets it past her cabinet and parliament, even if it is endorsed by the other 27, she still doesn’t have a ‘deal’
What she has is a boarding pass.
She’s agreed the fare and has reached the airport.
But we - and she - still don’t have a clue about what lies behind the departure gate.
So she’s agreed to hang around in the lounge (probably at brexit Wetherspoons) for a couple of years while she tries to work out where to go
It’s taken 28 months to get to the airport and she thinks she’s going to reach the final utopian destination by 2020?
How many trade deals are reached in less than 2 years?
None.
This is crazy, let’s stop it now

For six years she was personally in charge of the department responsible for immigration.
She could have limited it had she chosen to do so. By using EU rules.

1/ Here's the thing about the Theresa May — Jean-Claude Juncker spat over whether May was vague or not at the #EUCO summit table about her Brexit demands. It’s a sideshow because the undeniable reality is that Westminster-at-large is vague.
2/ Westminister is undeniably vague via there being no majority for any type of Brexit, yet an absolute insistence from the British government and opposition leader that nevertheless a hard-ish take back control Brexit must happen.

1. Though I am an advocate of the EEA, I do not welcome the meddlesome interjections by @nickboles. He is a bluffer and he does not understand the EEA system - and because of that he will cock up the arguments and create more unnecessary opposition. (#Brexit thread)
2. We have already seen this dynamic in play. He was told that EEA could not be used as a temporary option. Only when slapped down by the Norwegian PM did it occur to him that he might be wrong and it took him a month to change his tune.
3. But that is no lodged in the minds of some that Norway has ruled the option out. So that wasn't helpful. But then he is still saying the EEA is instantly operable and the transition is simple. It isn't, It will require full cooperation from the EU.

1. Could food, medicines and petrol run out in the event of a no deal scenario? The short answer is yes, absolutely. It only takes a small disruption to sophisticated supply chains for things to grind to a halt. (#Brexit thread).
2. Leaving without a deal means becoming a third country overnight. The UK would not exist as an entity anywhere inside the EU legal framework. We would be subject to third country controls without any of the single market approvals or valid certification.
3. If you don't have the valid paperwork for your goods to circulate freely then you have to find a named importer and have your products re-certified inside the EU - as considerable cost. Some classes of foodstuff must be diverted to border inspection posts.
