Facebook here, trying to secure its position at the centre of the emerging digital communications regime.
If we don't use this moment of transition to create an egalitarian and democratic communicative infrastructure then all our ambitions for a better world are likely to expire, strangled by algorithms.
As with the BBC's "local democracy reporters" scheme, the Facebook money serves as a subsidy for legacy newspaper conglomerates. No money for independents, hyperlocal, co-ops. This is about new patronage relationships in the corporate sector.
