People needing urgent medical assistance must receive help. The point is, how. Can transgender identity be a phase, #ROGD, a social contagion among teenagers? Some say no, the idea is “transphobic”. Yet many relate personal experience in which it was, in fact, a phase./3
I felt like a boy for many years but transition was impossible. Lucky escape! Now I am happily married to a woman, with two great children. There are also #detransitioners and people expressing #transregret. Do those stories deserve to be told, or must they be suppressed?/4
Puberty blockers, offered to children with gender dysphoria, are said to be reversible. Yet almost 100% of children who receive them go on to transition. That means sterility and a lifetime of dependency on hormones, and in many cases a less than satisfying sex life./5
Some people are very happy with the outcome. Others are not. We do not let children drive a car, join the army, we discourage them from smoking, drinking, and having sex. Yet we should allow them to go down a path leading to sterility and lifelong dependence on medication?/6
A large majority of children presenting with gender dysphoria who are not given puberty blockers eventually “desist”: they change their minds and end up content with their bodies, often gay or lesbian./7
Children’s identity is very fluid. They should certainly be free to be themselves, In terms of names, clothes, sports etc. But not medicalized. If a child says “Give me what I want or I’ll kill myself” that child is clearly in distress./8
But this is mental anguish and needs to be treated in psychotherapy like any other form of mental anguish. Please, please, stop thinking it is progressive to applaud the policy of giving children hormones. It is not!/9
