THREAD
Some gems from this great talk by Rory Sutherland:

Many thanks to @david_perell for the recommendation on his website!
The context in which a choice is presented influences our decision more than the long term consequences of the decision.
Funny example: The old stereotype that men are less keen to get married. Marriage is a very feminine ceremony - if it involved more sex, travel and power tools instead of picking flower Bouquets, men would be lining up to get married!
The value of advertising: Often the human perception of value is so whacko that to meddle with it is a healthy thing, e.g. people overvaluing scarce things like rhinoceros horn. Or to view inexpensive things as less valuable.
e.g. frozen food and coach travel, cheap and efficient => become mass-market goods => perceived as inferior goods.
The better capitalism does, the less appreciative we get.
We pay more for things we value, but we also value things more highly if we have to pay for them.
@patio11
As prices get lower, the pleasure we get from things diminishes => big loss in human happiness
More coming as I finish the video
