Thirty years into working on or reporting on Central American refugees - especially refugee children- & the consistent & varied streams of violence rained on them by the US govt, I find the sudden attention to this most recent violence curious. I've seen adobe homes w the skin
of displaced children grafted into them by bombs "Made in America; I've seen children terrorized by Salvadoran death squads backed by the Reagan Administration; I've seen the leathery remains of refugee girls pushed to horrific deaths by policies first instituted by the Clinton
Administration and expanded by all subsequent Administrations; I've been with 6 yr old boys who watched gang members shoot their family members in the face, boys who were then greeted by the Obama Administration with jail time where those kid's fellow refugees slit their wrists
and hang themselves; So, I see the current violence against refugee children and their mothers as part of a continuum of US government violence perpetrated against these children for over 30 years. Yet, most my colleagues in the larger, more connected media have erased this
in most of the reporting. This extreme erasure is so total, so totalitarian, that most major media stories about Central American child separation and asylum- seeking at the border do not include any Central American experts, scholars, community leaders or journalists, including
those of us who have 29 or more years reporting on & dealing with Central American refugee children than those who are more suddenly expert. We Central Americans may not be the Obama operatives you prefer to replace us with, but we're have a truth that you have to face, if your
