Avoid the deeply-rooted commitment of too many "immgr journalists" who frame immigration as a "national security" issue.Such a frame has turned too many journos in2 stenographers for politicians & multi-billion $ interests who profit fr national securitization of the issue.
@mollymotoole @latimes 2. Use your internatl experience in "hot spots" 2 demonstrate how th heat of faild economic,drug war & policing policy combine w climate change 2 drive millions of innocnts fr their homes.B honest re the failure of US policy, as in the case El Salvador, a country I know well.

Show readers the continuum of immigr policies between the Obama & Trump Administrations, be courageous enough 2 say things like "Obama separated 5100 families via foster care—in 2011 alone" or "The primary policy foundation for Trump;s immigration policies are those of Obama."

In the case of Central American migrant stories, take the bold step of actually putting Central American experts—scholars, commty leaders, journos—instead of the Obama Adminsitration officials that replaced them in almost all of the articles on CA child separation, caravans &

@mollymotoole @latimes @CJR and lastly, 5. Be an example to young journalists, show them that journalism isn't simply the Bad-Fox-News vs. Good-Liberal-media, that immigration truth will implicate both parties in the catastrophe that blames migrants for their often tragic plight. Here to help.
