A couple of thoughts about #PeoplesVote:

1/
Lots of attention (rightly) focused on UK path to making this happen (via legislation post-meaningful vote stuff), but that's not the whole of it

2/
The Withdrawal Act states that 'exit day' is 29 March 2019 (legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2018/16/…) so if more time is needed to run a referendum (which it would be), then amendment of the Act would be necessary

3/
Any other domestic provisions with similar dates would need amending too

4/
(and yes, the gvt had argued that putting a specific date in was a bad idea, partly for this reason)

(and yes, that's a major reason why rebels put it in)

5/
But there's also a EU-level element, since the gvt would have to ask for an extension to Art.50, and secure unanimous approval from the EU27

6/
If the EU27 felt this was a sincere exercise, then no good reason they'd not give this approval.

Doesn't stop someone throwing up a thing (fish, Gibraltar, etc.) as a price, but there you go

7/
The issue is rather if Parliament finds itself pushing #PeoplesVote against a resistant gvt, who are the ones who have to make the request.

Plt can command gvt to make it, but foot-dragging may occur

8/
So, second-order complications (as against the initial decision, and the passage of legislation), but still worth noting
