The last enduring myth of #Brexit is that "Remainer" May betrayed leavers
Last night's #C4Brexit debate showed that up for what it is:
3 offers from 3 *clear* brexiters - all incompatible, each hated by the others

There is no deal anyone can agree on, that's what killed Brexit
In the end Brexit could only work if there was consensus, at least amongst Leave supporters if no one else. But instead #Brexit leaders are caught between May's deal, no deal, Canada+++ & Norway+

This is the issue, not May, Brexit leaders cannot speak with a single voice
Even if you accept that May's deal was a remainer compromise, what then? You'd at least expect to see the Brexiters coalescing around a single alternative, but they cannot
No deal, hard brexit, go back and renegotiate, they're moving between these options in desperation
It's not enough to just want #Brexit, or saying "leave means leave"
There has to be a plan with pros & cons that a majority can get behind

There never has been and never can be because Vote Leave promised everything & delivered nothing

The only consistent majority is for Remain
- Gove is supporting May
- Mogg is pushing no deal
- Johnson is suggesting blackmail & Canada+++
- Davis? Suggests bluffing but God knows really

This is *nothing to do* with Remainers
The big #Brexit leaders simply cannot agree nor reconcile their promises with reality

1) You have a mortgage, several credit cards & a pay day loan so you go to the bank to restructure your finances

You can't get to an agreement & you can't afford the payments so you stop paying

But you still have the debt & now a busted credit score

2) there's this idea that we save £39b if we #Brexit with no deal.
The obligation still exists, we've already agreed this. We're not "buying a deal" we're meeting commitments.
If we crash out & don't pay we're just sending a message, the UK is untrustworthy as well as incompetent
3) if you're the kind of person who thinks it's OK for the UK to walk away from a debt its already agreed to then you're probably the kind of person who doesn't pay his fair share of a meal, or gets his round in, or returns that borrowed drill

1) There is one reason why remainers have "bashed Corbyn" and its this

Because its always been obvious that Labour represented a large & growing Remain group, and that Corbyn was pro #Brexit, working against that Remain attitude

2) Corbyn "Remainers" have continously reinterpreted Corbyn's words, projected their beliefs onto him, pressed on "the long game", stated "he's just following policy", said "he hasn't the numbers" and generally gone through hoops to avoid the obvious truth - Corbyn is a brexiter
3) instead of making statements like "#FBPE is a Corbyn bashing cult" it would be more honest to recognise that Corbyn is against his party & membership on #Brexit, the biggest issue of the age, and always has been. And this is a disgrace

Defending him on this is also a disgrace

1) the Main democratic outrage of #Brexit was the question

There's lots of talk about how a #PeoplesVote would be a democractic outrage but the reality is the major democratic disaster was the Leave/Remain referendum question

And sooner or later we're going to have to face it
2) the problem is "Leave" as an option is a blank canvas, but when examined it always, in any analysis, breaks out into at least 2 very different versions
a) a deal which prioritises the economy over sovereignty
b) a deal which does the reverse
And they are irreconcilable
3) and the entire reason for the mess that we're in now is because sufficient numbers of public figures have been too cowardly, cynical or stupid to accept this fundamental division in Leave options

1. There was only ever one coherent reason to remain in the EU and that was to stop it becoming the monster it very obviously wants to become. For a time that was a valid basis for being in the EU, but in many respects it didn't work because it went ahead with fiscal union anyway
2. What the UK proved is that we could, to a point, control the pace, but not the destination, and when the EU goes ahead with something, even without us, being in its gravitational orbit we tend to get sucked along with it. To a point that much won't change even after Brexit.
3. We really dodged the bullet by not joining the Euro which would have been a catastrophe for the UK but now the Euro is established, the functioning of the EU and the running of it is increasingly none of our business. We're not in the fast lane of the EU and we dont need to be

1. I am told I should welcome the efforts of @betterbrexit. I'm not impressed. It's too little, far too late and ill thought out. EEA might well be a large part of the solution but it is not a miracle solution and moving into it from the position of being an EU member is not easy
2. To maintain frictionless trade we would need a customs protocol to go with it along with a series of negotiated annexes which may take a number of years to complete. It's not as simple as just filling in an Efta application form.
3. EEA has often been described as an off the shelf solution (even by me) but it is only off the shelf insofar as it is an existing framework. It still needs to be beaten into shape and will have to take into account the concerns and red lines of Efta members.

1. The one component missing from #Brexit is an intellectual foundation. Eurosceptics once had one. There was a committee meeting twenty years ago in a Salisbury farmhouse twenty years ago and that's the last time we collectively gave it any thought.
2. At the core of it, the one thing we all agree on in the Benn/Foot angle on democracy - but there has never been agreement on an alternative vision. The old boys wanted the Commonwealth whereas some wanted to revive Efta.
3. A common strand has been an aversion to regulation and red tape and collectively eurosceptics have never really understood the economic utility of regulatory harmonisation. It was largely seen as a sinister integrationist device.
