#PeterObi comes across as a really smart, competent leader.

Throws @ProfOsinbajo under the bus “the VP is in charge of debt management. We’re no longer part of MINT because we have a poor economy”.

Bad man. 😂😂😂 #2019Debate
The @yppnational VP candidate is having a serious case of stage fright. She wouldn’t win a secondary school debate. Always pivoting to what her undoubtably brilliant boss @MoghaluKingsley will do.

Really poor grasp of the issues. She should have read Kingsley’s book

#2019Debate

#PeterObi dives into a treatise on the capital market. Argues convincingly about reducing role of government in the economy & allowing the private sector take the lead.

Highlights issues with lack of access to commercial credit.
:sigh:

First mention of the PDP 16 years. Question was about investment o!

Ah! Grand corruption makes a grand entrance. @ProfOsinbajo reverts to his tried and tested script. He should have just sent a mannequin and a CD player.

#2019Debate #VPDebate
Oh. Another lie. Prof actually said PDP did not invest in infrastructure over their 16 years in power.

Unnecessary.

#2019Debate #VPDebate
Lol. Hashtags all over the place. Which one be #2018Debate? Abeg make una no vex.

#VPDebate2018
#PeterObi brings the house down. Tackles @ProfOsinbajo over his jab about fighting corruption is not an economic policy.

“You don’t close your shop down to chase criminals.”

Prof responds like a boss sha: “if you don’t fight corruption there will be no shop left.” Hall scatters
The Allied Congress Party candidate seems to have missed the turning to the owambe he left his house to attend.

Somebody Galadima. Very forgettable fellow.

Appears not to like subsidy

#VPDebate2018
The ANN candidate is my new woman crush sha!

Nation builder. Articulate. Composed.

Struggled to answer the subsidy question sha. Kept looking at her notes. Managed to pivot to her stump speech. #VPDebate2018
Lemme hear what prof wants to say about subsidy.

Condemns the old subsidy regime. Claims no country in the world runs without a subsidy. Intends to remove the subsidy eventually.

#VPDebate2018
#PeterObi wins the subsidy round. Compares low investment in health and education with the subsidy.

“We have 10 per 1000 cars, and are paying over a trillion”.

Peter sounds angry at the monumental waste of resources.

#VPDebate2018
The @yppnational candidate is embarrassing me. I’m embarrassed for her. Someone should turn off her Mike. 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️

“We removed subsidy it did not work. We kept subsidy it did not work. We should ask Nigerians.”

#VPDebate2018
Commercial break. Two APC ads: N-Power and Sukuk. Back to back.

Prime time viewing. The nation is watching.

PDP o!!!

#VPDebate2018
@ProfOsinbajo claims their govt is lending the most Nigeria has ever given to MSMEs. Bold claim. I’ll check later.

Takes us on a journey though their attempts to grow the economy: “GDP has grown consistently for 6 months”.

To be fair microscopic growth (1.8%) is still growth.
What the hell? My ANN crush Is unraveling! She appears to have memorized her speaking points and is struggling to explain how her mnemonics will grow the economy.

Keep it together Khadijah! #VPDebate2018
Galadima tells us we have no cause for concern since his presidential candidate @obyezeks is a world-class economist.

Someone forgot to tell him that as VP he’d be in charge of the economy.

#VPDebate2018
On AfCTA #PeterObi argues for why we should sign the agreement. We have the largest market, yes, but we have huge opportunities to expand trade on the continent.

#VPDebate2018
@ProfOsinbajo says we should be cautious because of the risk of trans-shipment: China dumps in Ghana and Ghana ships to us.

There are risks and issues that need to be addressed. There is no hurry to sign.

#VPDebate2018
ANN candidate Khadijah Abdullahi-Iya also urges caution. China the big bogey-man is seen as a threat.

Interesting that the VP took an anti-China stance, considering how far in bed we are with China.

#VPDebate
Galadima. Oby’s VP. Pushing an anti-trade, protectionist stance.

No words.

@yppnational candidate takes the same stance. Don’t sign. @MoghaluKingsley what the heck is going on?!?

#VPDebate2018
#PeterObi comes in hard for signing. You don’t need to fear trans-shipment trade from China. Fix the in-efficiency! It costs more to transport from Apapa to Onitsha than from China to Lagos. Labour is cheaper here than in China.

#VPDebate2018
@ProfOsinbajo with a great rebuttal. There are other cost elements. China subsidies their exports; electricity is another major cost element. Dumping is a real threat.

I’ll call this round for Prof. simply because he marshaled a weaker argument better than Obi.

#VPDebate2018
Look, in truth only @PeterObi and @ProfOsinbajo are making sense. Really, really disappointed in all the other three third force candidates.

I’m tempted to stop tweeting their rubbish comments.

#VPDebate2018
@yppnational VP candidate Getso says all we need are patriotic leaders in the aviation sector.

#VPDebate2018
On ICT, #PeterObi talks about investment in education and in particular STEM.

Regales is about his own investment in education when he was Governor of Anambra. The future is technology. You can’t be doing subsidy when you need to invest in the future.

#VPDebate2018
@ProfOsinbajo says he wants to talk about what they have down in ICT. Talks about establishment of tech hubs and investment in the sector. Claims they have ‘done’ a STEAM curriculum.

#VPDebate2018
Another ad break.

*APC N-Power ad.

*Cheese snack ad.

*Sensodyne toothpaste ad.

PDP ooooo!!!
On to power. This will be fun. How many megawatts of power can your government generate a year?

ANN: We want to generate...we want to upgrade the megawatt to more than the present numbers. We want the pre-paid meters...Govt...erm...we use innovation to aside from

#VPDebate2018
Steel mills are not working. Ajaokuta has been down. What is the way forward?

YPP: The way forward to fix is...well I know they were trying to fix it but I don’t know what they have done. We need investors. We also need patriotism so we can stop using generators.

#VPDebate2018
#PeterObi tackles the issue of the ease of doing business: Government has no business in business. If Government gets out of the way, the ease of doing business will improve.

#VPDebate2018
@ProfOsinbajo is a smooth counter-puncher sha.

“If you say investment hasn’t taken place in years, who has been in office this last 16 years?”

Well played Prof.

#VPDebate2018 #2019Debate
If you get re-elected, what will you do to attract more FDI?

@ProfOsinbajo: “we’ll build on what we’re doing and move Nigeria to the next level. We are one of the top 10 reforming economies in the world according to @WorldBank.”

Prof is caught in yet ANOTHER lie! 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️
Foreign Policy segment. What’s the right foreign policy for Nigeria in a changing global environment?

ANN: Every kind of collaboration that has been existing before will change.

ACPN: The world is a global village.

YPP: Moghalu. Moghalu. Moghalu.

#VPDebate2018
#PeterObi believes Africa will be at the center Nigeria’s FP thrust. In terms of trade & security, the PDP will seek to build mutually beneficial relationships with our continental Neighbours. With regards to the rest of the world, @PeterObi will seek knowledge rather than loans
Prof thinks the major focus of the FP is the economy & security.

Will not sign agreements as they are though, because he is looking out for Nigeria’s interests. 🙃🙃🙃

#VPDebate2018
So we’ve come to the end of the debate. If you needed a reason not to waste your time on the lesser parties, this is it.

I’m supremely disappointed in @MoghaluKingsley’s VP choice.

I think the questions asked were largely irrelevant and extremely tepid.

#VPDebate2018
Obviously I think @PeterObi won. He was clearly the more clued-up economic manager. He did struggle to bat away Prof’s persistent accusations of grand corruption.

Prof did pretty well. He was the more natural speaker. Lied the most, too.

#VPDebate2018
This exercise was symbolic.

But it’s great for our democracy, and I implore @MBuhari to swallow his pride/fear and take part in the Presidential Debate.

In the end, regardless of how he performs at the debate, Democracy & Nigeria will ultimately emerge as the winners.
