Fixing the problem versus Assigning blame.

“The centrist” vs “ the far left”

How pragmatism has been mislabel centrism

Let me explain
I had a long twitter battle w/ a “ progressive” who insisted that banning fossil fuel companies should be a central part of the Dems platform. I said from a policy standpoint that would make things worst not better- as only fueling companies can do large scale EV supercharging
He responded to me that 40 years ago Exxon (one of many companies in that industry) sat on the climate change report so they couldn’t be trusted.

I wanted to yell, really is that relevant today? I politely asked do you have another 168,000 fueling retail network nationwide?
I pointed out for Fueling companies own self interest they have invested BILLIONs into renewable energy that they can sell.

Are they possible doing it for selfish reason- you bet.

China and Europe are fast tracking EV this is just to gain profit.- so

Having “ Big Oil” chase the renewable market even out of greed gives a solutions to large problems.

Our transportation system is the largest polluter, electrifying the system has the biggest impact in carbon reduction and having nationwide supercharging helps us with that.
I am often talking to a left that is more interesting In demonizing a villain than working toward an actual fix.

They quickly call the fix incrementalism.

But what they suggest has no payoff timetable or potential to actually work. It just makes a splashy point.
I have seen the left demonize Trade to the point TPP which was written to favor the US - was demonized by the left and the right.

Now we are reaping the pain for such foolish approaches.

Left demonizes insurance companies that they don’t notice that most Universal Healthcare approaches around the world includes a component of well regulated health insurance. They also don’t notice that a large population of Americans Rs/Ds aren’t Ok w/ an only gov run system.
They would rather keep harping on Goverment run singlepayer - rather than accepting best practices around the world because insurance companies are “evil.”

This is a nonstarter w/ Americans even left leaning. As more details are known even Dems support drops.
Despite the dueling information in polls candidates who ran on single-payer or Medicare for lost.

Ppl want to go to a doctor when they need. They don’t want a solution for that that has heavy Goverment intervention. The want the Goverment to do something not everything.
Singlepayer is great at guaranteeing someone the right to see a doctor.

But it is not good at ensuring care at the point of request. So a lot of systems have retains some health insurance.
Despite living on Twitter a corporate platform the theme for them is corporations are always bad.

This is not how mainstream voters think and it’s not how problems are solved. So I don’t see this left as serious abt fixing America persistent issues. They can make things worst.
If someone spent as much time working on these issues - you would learn and see things from sides you didn’t know exist.

I find the far left often arguing against experts working on the ground for their preferred approach that just seems like exacting pounds of flesh.
So please stop asking me to Unite with people who just want to burn it down.

I don’t see many points of agreement.

I think they have more in common with Trump voters who also want to make someone pay- just slightly different someone’s. Sometimes the same someone’s.
