Withdrew my Trump golf course tweet because I don't want to cause confusion: Mueller did refer the Trump golf course immigration issue to federal prosecutors; I *don't* mean to suggest Mueller sees the *immigration* side of the Trump golf course scandal as under his jurisdiction.
2/ Mueller accessing—we think—Trump's tax returns, and knowing that Eric Trump told a Golf Magazine journalist a few years ago that Trump gets "all" the funding he needs for his courses from the Russians, suggests that Trump's golf course funding is *well* within Mueller's ambit.
3/ I think there's an untold story behind Attorney Romero referring the Trump golf course case to Mueller; on its face—at the level of an initial phone call—Romero's suit was (and is) an immigration issue that should never have made it to a full review by Mueller. And yet it did.
4/ Because Mueller ultimately—rightly—deemed an immigration issue outside his purview, it was Mueller who referred the Trump golf course case to federal prosecutors. But the point I'd been trying to make is there's no reason for the issue to have gone to a full review by Mueller.
5/ So let's understand what occurred: Romero contacted Mueller's office; had Mueller not been considering Trump's golf courses—and even if/as he had been—the case should've been turned away immediately and wasn't; and *then* Mueller went further and referred the case to the FBI.
6/ What many would conclude—I do—is Trump's courses are in Mueller's ambit, in Mueller's view; Mueller didn't quickly reject Romero's referral because he needed to see if it connected to his probe; he went above/beyond by referring the case to the FBI, which Romero didn't expect.
