Today we published a NYT story on science and politics, an issue that we plan to give more attention to during the 2020 presidential and congressional races. nyti.ms/2H5TmqK?smid=n…
The story looks at how some new House members won in November on their scientific backgrounds, like Rep. Joe Cunningham (D-S.C.), but changing Congress’s perspective is easier said than done.
“‘We believe in science’ - that line always drew applause,” said Mr. Cunningham, who won an upset victory over a Republican. “Imagine someone saying that about any other subject like, ‘I believe in history.’”
With climate change and “the Green New Deal” emerging as ever-bigger issues for Democrats, the influence of these newcomers will be compelling to watch and listen to.
We’re going to dig into policy issues during the 2020 races more than we’ve done in past races. What issues would you like us to explore? Please feel free to email ideas or feedback to me at pdh@nytimes.com. nytimes.com/2019/01/13/us/…
