People in Uniforms today must understand that you can’t wear it forever. While in it, know that it is not an excuse to oppress others or extort them. It is a rare opportunity to show leadership in service by leaving a legacy. Regimented life often leaves one depressed. #TrueStory
Unfortunately we are yet to have sustainable support for PTSDs for officers in and out of service in Nigeria. My few years in training is yet to leave my system. I still wake up 3am everyday regardless of how late I sleep. The bugle calls still ring in my ears.
Imagine what those who actually fight in the battle lines go through even after making it back alive. Imagine the void deep in their hearts about their missing and dead colleagues. Imagine the heartbreak when their pensions are not paid. Just think am small.
There is no position permanent in life. We keep moving forward. Life in itself is a journey and you only arrive when you are dead. The joy thus is on the trip. The things you make happen for others and what you will be remembered for. Lead from where you are with/without orders.
After spending many years of your life taking orders. Most of which may be contrary to your conviction, there is no how it won’t leave something in you to ponder much later in life. Living without direction or instruction thus becomes another learning curve.
This is not only true for those in security related services but also for the middle class running a 9 to 5. After many years under management (doing things according to set standards), the thought of having everyday of your life as a weekend becomes scary.
It is easy to dedicate 2 days in a week to be irresponsible and hangout with the boys or girls and regain sanity on Mondays but when the railings and clutches are gone, life becomes a stunt of walking on a tight rope. Now you are on your own & you feel inadequate.
It probably won’t begin to hurt until you interface with the system you have just left. When a former officer gets abused by serving officers behaving badly, when a former HOD’s daughter is abused by a lecturer, when a former banker is dubiously debited...
...or when an old politician is being victimized by a system they benefitted from in dereliction. This is when the dearth of positive legacy begins to haunt and stab you in the heart. How can a former CSP forgive himself over the loss of an only son to Police Impunity? 🤔
Nothing makes one consider suicide like the Meeting of one’s shadow in the journey called life. But this is also an opportunity to recalculate coordinates and course correct. It is never too late to lead oneself. You can always start from where you are. Nothing lasts forever. 🧐
The New IGP has a golden opportunity at this point in our politics to make a believer of Nigerians and do the institution proud. His service may or may not be a short stint depending on how he chooses to play his cards. He has the opportunity to make history.
...End of Celestial Observation...
Former Force PRO DCP Jimoh Moshood has been redeployed and ACP Frank Mba is now the Police force PRO....

one thing about life is that it goes on.
