M-of-N social key recovery in the @htcexodus "blockchain phone"

I've been a proponent of such things for a long time; really happy to see it implemented and look forward to seeing this feature get used more and hopefully see wider adoption in the crypto community.

Also @glenweyl this is arguably an early step toward formalized non-state-backed identity.
The phone also has a trusted hardware chip to store keys securely (not yet a hardware switch showing the user when the trusted hardware chip is actually controlling the screen but I hear that's coming in the next version?) and encryption by default

1. Time for a brief tweetstorm on non-financial applications of blockchains. As blockchain scalability gets better and better, and UX improves and fees drop as a result, this will become a bigger and bigger part of the story.
2. One underappreciated way to view blockchains is as an extension of cryptography that does different things. Cryptography allows you to encrypt data, prove data was signed by someone, etc etc.... blockchains OTOH allow you to prove that a piece of data was *not* published.
3. A simple example is a blockchain university degree verification app I saw recently. A degree is certified with just a digital signature, but *revocations* are put on chain. With cryptography alone you can't check that a revocation was *not* signed; but with a blockchain....

Fun fact about the "cashless society" in China: the government is actively opposing it.

Translation: "Refusing to accept cash is illegal. Protect the legal tender status of the RMB"

Jimin wouldn’t allow himself to be trapped on his shift for any longer than necessary.

“Go, go,” Taehyung hurried, taking Jimin’s apron to let him slip out from behind the counter more quickly. Jimin decided he could get the grounds out from under his nails at home.
This morning had been absolute hell. Two girls ordered seven drinks, Jimin made them all only for them to say they were supposed to be with almond milk.

‘Oh I’m so sorry,’ was he all he had legally been allowed to say at the time, while his mind had far more colorful ideas.
With Jimin officially clocked out, he slumped on the customer side of the now empty service counter, looking to his friend with tired eyes.

“You wanna grab dinner later?”
“I can’t, remem—?
“Ah, right...”

Jimin’s disappointment vanished as Taehyung suddenly smiled to himself.

KEY POINT: The main allegation in Steele's dossier *isn't* that Putin has blackmail on Trump. It's *money laundering*. The claim is Trump took Russian money via shell corporations in exchange for a more favorable Russia policy. And what's Mueller looking at now? Money laundering.
KEY POINT #2: Bannon says Mueller can get Trump on money laundering. Christie implied Mueller can get Kushner on money laundering. Mueller's leads look to be on money laundering. Trump hid his returns to hide money laundering. THAT'S why Nunes needs to discredit Steele's dossier.
KEY POINT #3: When Nunes invoked a House rule not used in 40 years to attack Steele; when GOP senators referred Steele for criminal prosecution; when Trump declared war on the FBI over Steele; why didn't US media right then ask, "What's SO DANGEROUS to Trump in Steele's dossier?"
