They either didn't care or really didn't know (probably former), both doesn't help if they want to be taken on board: It's begging for a 'stitch up' because they tried to 'stab' the other side.

@APHClarkson @TomMcTague @AlbertoNardelli @MacaesBruno @herszenhorn It sounds kinda mean, but NI is not an issue for them and the question whether they should tolerate less sovereignty over NI is more toxic than the peace itself. Putting it in the backstop makes sure it is first rank priority and gets through.
@APHClarkson @TomMcTague @AlbertoNardelli @MacaesBruno @herszenhorn Gets through because in the moment we have no deal the calamity doesn't just hit NI, it hits England at its core (e.g. economically), it forces concessions on NI which they would never have made. Waiting and hoping is not an option.
@APHClarkson @TomMcTague @AlbertoNardelli @MacaesBruno @herszenhorn Especially not because they may prepare for no deal and prolong the time until HMG is forced to concede to mini deals mirroring WA obligations, this is time when conflict in NI may escalate and crosses a point when you just got back to pre Brexit status quo.
