Britain is responsible for centuries of bloodshed on the Irish island, which was only ended by the Good Friday Agreement creating a delicate balance between Northern Ireland's attachment to the UK & Ireland.
Both Brexit options skew that balance. A GOOD Britain wouldn't do that.

So... when I point out that in light of our colonial treatment of our Irish neighbours since the 1500's, I'd like for the country I love to avoid tarnishing its moral reputation further by not trashing the very thing put in place to make amends, I get this

But this is one of the fundamental problems we're dealing with.
We seem to think that loving your country means believing it's capable of thriving under any conditions, and that questioning its actions is somehow an act of betrayal.

I've said this before but it's important;
If you love your country just because it's your country, you don't really love your country. Loving your country means wanting make sure it's GOOD as well as great.
