Checking something on which I can find little information - business travel between the UK and EU in the event of no-deal Brexit - am I right in thinking that many will require business visas? Visa-waiver won't apply to 'paid work'. Thanks...
It appears to be correct that the rights of non-EU resident UK citizens to work in the EU are not protected in the event of a no-deal Brexit. Feel sorry for those concerned, and can't believe how we would voluntarily do this to our citizens with little notice
Also means that a number of workers for UK companies who are non-resident will also presumably require work visas in a no-deal situation. Likely to be on the highly paid side, so cost may not be so much of an issue as Home Office
Ok, am now confident in saying that work visas for EU citizens in UK and vice versa is a major issue in a March no-deal scenario. Affecting cross-EU business with UK office, UK citizens working in EU, and more.

The services economy we are so proud of and want to grow after Brexit? Will be directly hit by the need for UK service sector workers to get work visas for EEA countries after Brexit. One of the reasons proximity still matters so much for trade.

No votes this week, and it looks better for the PM's deal, as the alternatives lose ground. No-deal as the default stays as a strong possibility, but the campaign for a referendum simply doesn't seem to have the support. So if it isn't going to be no-deal...
Re-posting my own article from yesterday, the differences between the PM's deal and Labour's policy are minor - only tribal politics and appalling leadership stops a deal being confirmed. The chances of EEA thus also recede... politics.co.uk/comment-analys…

A Free Trade Agreement is for life not just for Christmas.
Lots of people are having fun inventing trade deals, tariff policy, future regulations, but the reason these things take years is you need to make sure what you decide actually suits your economy
There might also be a few bridges to build with all those businesses that some MPs have been insulting for quite a while now

EU: We can take away the backstop if you commit in treaty to staying in the single market and customs union.
UK: That breaches our red lines.
EU: You're asking us to breach our red lines but you're not prepared to move yours.
UK: But we can't get a deal on that basis...
EU: We can give you review periods, technology committees, all manner of things, but our Parliament will allow nothing but a fully permanent backstop.
UK: But our Parliament will not allow a backstop...

In today’s EU letter of assurances on #Brexit deal, the real message to MPs to help Theresa May is the EUs insistance that -as PM claims- this deal is the ONLY deal on offer. The content of the letter: reassurances on the backstop etc we’ve (often) heard from Brussels before 1
The content of the letter comes as no surprise at all to PM. Ahead of Tuesday’s vote communications are wide open between No10 and Brussels. The EU also waited for PMs go-ahead as to exactly when to release the letter but 2
None of my European contacts believe their letter will get the deal passed in Tuesday’s vote. They see that the PM does not have parliament behind her but they support her in effort to concentrate MPs minds with implicit threat that it’s this deal, no deal, (or no #Brexit ) 3

The BBC is preparing to move its channel licences, in order to keep its ability to broadcast outside of the UK.

As a result of an impending no-deal Brexit, the BBC is looking at having its international channels licensed in either the Republic of Ireland or The Netherlands.
BBC's current licences issued by Ofcom are now highly likely to be no longer be valid for broadcast outside of the UK from the end of March 2019.
Many international broadcasters are now in the process of moving their regulatory bases out of London, ending London's dominance as Europe's main broadcasting hub.  #Brexit

1) Spain now saying it has a problem with the Brexit deal. Wants it legally clear “that negotiations between the UK and EU do not apply to Gibraltar. The future relationship over Gibraltar is a separate negotiation.”
2) Spain and U.K. have been holding bilateral throughout the #Brexit negotiations and Barnier seemed to think the Gibraltar issue was sorted but Spain says they’re worried about an article in the deal ‘they hadn’t seen before’
3) NB domestic politics in all this and not only in U.K. Last week the Spanish PM (who’s anyway struggling politically) was accused by the conservative opposition of being too soft over Gibraltar-Brexit talks ...

1. Why the hell all this hand wringing & whingeing on the part of the Brexiters & media about what the EU has presented in the draft legislation...there's no surprises given the duplicity of the UK Govt...the latter signed up to this in Dec & then started to weasel out of it.
2. The UK Govt's stated it wants to cherry pick ..the EU's said consistently NO CHERRY PICKING!
If we want to avoid a hard border we have to have CONVERGENCE of rules & regs; if we want the benefits of the CU/SM we have to remain in them. The CU/SM have compliance enforced by ECJ
3. Don't forget it's the UK Govt that's decided to pursue a hardline fantasy #Brexit & 20mths on still has no clue what it's doing..it & it's DUP henchmen are both playing dangerous brinkmanship as if this is a game of Call my Bluff. We are the supplicant..we are 1 they are 27.
