In case this wasn't clear, two people are responsible for signing off on if flights can take off - both are FAA certified airmen, not paid by govt, and each bears 50% of the legal liability for the decision to let a flight take off.

If either says no, the flight is grounded.
So if a dispatcher
- finds a maintenance issue
- if there are bomb threats or suspected terrorists are on board
- doesn't trust TSA was thorough
- if there are problems at one of the regional ARTCCs that control airspace a flight path traverses

they can ix-nay the akeoff-tay.
And they have in the past, to great success.

What's key is that this is an occupation that is regulated by FAA licensing, but it doesn't really have a recreational counterpart, so there aren't gazillions of dispatchers to take over for those being 'overly' cautious...

According to reports it is expected that today @POTUS Trump will recognize @jguaido as interim President of #Venezuela after he is sworn in following the Venezuelan constitution. I explain why. 1/x
Article 233 of the Venezuelan constitution specified that in the absence of a president elect, the president of the National Assembly becomes the interim president and should call to elections within 30 days 2.x
Maduro won elections in May for his 2nd term that started on January 10. But the elections weren’t free nor fair (and most countries don’t recognize them) and he was sworn in by the (loyal-to-him) Supreme Court and not the National Assembly as states in Constitution 3.x

The Russia story is a much smaller subset of the larger story, which is that Republicans are opposed, in practice and philosophically, to free and fair elections, and will take whatever help they can get executing their strategy of weakening and ultimately dissolving them.
They put her thumb on the scales as hard as they can, and it weakens democracy.

They’ll use compromised elections win as many races as they can.

And they’ll use the fact that our elections have been compromised to question the ones they lose.

Which weakens democracy further.
