So @AndrewDuffEU has had a crack at re-writing the #Brexit political declaration.

It's less baggy than the actual PD, which was an empty vessel.

The point is to tap the nexus between more clarity in PD opening door to some flex on WA.

Some highlights 1/thread
@AndrewDuffEU The big one is a Customs Union, or rather much clearler signalling that that is where we are heading.

Tory Buccaneers will hate this, obviously, but in the absence of Irish border unicorns we're heading there anyway. Which is why they hate the deal of course. /2
@AndrewDuffEU Then Free Movement. Softer here, hinting heavily that the new immigration regime won't impact so hard on existing EU-UK exchanges.

Its the kind of language that would reassure the EU that there new neighbours are good citizens, not arsonists who would burn their house down./3
@AndrewDuffEU Then on services a determination to maintain level playing fields and non-regression clauses "where appropriate", which leaves some wiggle room - but sets a clear direction of travel. /4
@AndrewDuffEU Recall that Mr Duff chairs the Federalist Spinelli group, which proselytizes for a Federal EU, so is making the best of a bad job when it comes to loosing a key member of the bloc. /5
@AndrewDuffEU But this kind of PD (which is honestly where a lot of EU dips assume the UK will end up anyway, as gravity takes over during the coming EU-UK trade negotiation and the UK is faces up to the cost of trade-offs in the real world. /6
@AndrewDuffEU May's game was ultimately to conceal this fact - but she got rumbled.

So the question is whether coming clean now - or being forced to by the House of Commons - can open door to EU granting concessions on WA that will get @Jacob_Rees_Mogg to sign up. /7
@AndrewDuffEU @Jacob_Rees_Mogg This risk, of course, is that you just spook the ERG horses, who may yet be convinced to agree the divorce deal to at least win a crack at defying gravity, and being sucked inevitably back into the EU orbit during the future relationship negotiation. /8
@AndrewDuffEU @Jacob_Rees_Mogg Always the same problem with the #Brexit Rubiks cube...just when you get one side sorted, you scramble the other.

But there is a solution, however mind-boggling it looks. 9/ENDS
