The intellectuals' manifesto to defend Europe (Pamhuk, Applebaum etc) is not bad. It avoids playing the "radical left and the far right are the same" game, attacking nationalists and identitarians. Here's what I wrote the same day; independent.co.uk/voices/europea…

For the record, if asked, I could have signed that letter minus the word "Paris" because Bernard Henri-Levi and other Macronists are trying wrongly to stigmatise the Gilets Jaunes as right/Putinites... but the point is now to concretise the action... independent.co.uk/voices/europea…
But Pamuk, Kundera et al are right - 400 years of rationalism and Englightenment are under threat now. My book #ClearBrightFuture out in May explains why this is fundamentally a crisis of the self, hollowed out by neoliberalism and fatalism...
