With Republicans it's a bizarre mix of those who manipulate working class whites to betray themselves for identity purposes and then people like Hewitt who want to control the world through economics and coups.

What ends up happening is that the so-called intellectuals of conservatism drive the economic policies that make no sense and the foreign policy that destabilizes the world and destroys international opinion of America. The manipulators are just happy getting elected and rich.
With this Venezuela situation, they see it as a means of pressing a lever for political purposes, but what they never consider is that there are people at the heart of it who will suffer. The intellectual wing of the Republican Party is never about people. It's the next move
What we see now, in this season of dysfunction and chaos, is the result of decades of Republican attempts to control the world for their own purposes. It always, always backfires, and what it actually does is hurt the US so much worse than if we had never interfered.
While the manipulating faux-populists continue to tell everyone America is the best country in the world, the so-called intellectuals have destabilized everything and made enemies the world round. They've completely undermined our moral authority and have made us less safe.
It needs pointed out that in nearly every case we've intervened we've done so without considering the consequences because these people literally think the US is guided by providence and it'll just work out. Here's a spoiler: it never, ever does.
If you want to lose some sleep, go look up the list of governments the US has overthrown. Not only is it disgusting, but it's damning. It undermines our supposed principles. We support murderous dictators, we lose international support, we destabilize regions and empower monsters
If we meddle with Venezuela, and it seems like we have, set your watch to this: it's going to make things worse and we can just watch and wait to see how it backfires on us. It always does. But in the meantime, people are going to suffer because of our need to meddle.
