#BellLetsTalk is an annual mental health fundraiser in Canada.

Grad school, academia, fieldwork, resource extraction, disaster prep & response, journalism, filming crunch, freelancing — all my industries & areas of expertise are ones with a huge toll on mental health.
It’s a fundamental credo of disaster response that you need to take care of yourself before assisting others.

If you try to power through, you’re setting yourself up to break & need rescue, making the situation harder & more dangerous.

That includes mental health. #BellLetsTalk
Anxiety is a rational reaction to our world — our societies drive burnout, climate change is a slow-speed apocalypse, & sometimes it’s hard to imagine a better future, muchless act to create it.

But we don’t need to grapple with it alone. #BellLetsTalk
Today’s disaster tip:

Check in on yourself.
Check in on your community.

It’s ok to need help.
Ask for it when you can.
Offer it when you can.
Take care of yourself & each other.

We’re tiny creatures in a vast universe. It’s ok to be scared, but you’re not alone. #BellLetsTalk
#BellLetsTalk is one of those bits of digital activism that has real-world outcomes.

5¢ add up (slowly), but with their annual event, Bell is starting to destigmatize mental health conversations in Canada.
