It's a shame KIDS IN THE HALL isn't readily streaming for free somewhere, because I think Today's Teens and Young Adults would fucking love that show
KITH was one of the cornerstones of my comedy upbringing. It was fearless, aggressively weird, sexually progressive. It had a small army of excellent recurring characters (#RIPGentleAngelHecubus) and was consistently hilarious.
Fuck it, this is now a KIDS IN THE HALL baller sketches appreciation thread. Strap in and start here, chumps: "Slipped my mind."
KITH filmed in front of a live audience, but a huge chunk of their work was pre-taped. Here are two of my favorites, starting with "Mr. Right". It's perfectly executed.
A lot of KITH stuff was unsettling. They've got a great short I can't find at the moment called "Sausages" that's a straight-up, industrial David Lynch riff, but this one - "The Pear Dream" - is playing around in the same disturbing ballpark.

Scott Thompson was, undoubtedly, my favorite Kid in the Hall, but a close second was Bruce, prone to musical interludes and characters like...this guy.
Mark McKinney's "Head Crusher" character (a photo of whom inspired this entire thread, thanks for that) is fucking hilarious in execution...and borderline impossible to explain the appeal of to anyone who's never seen it in action.
"The Daves I Know". My god, "The Daves I Know". Absolute banger.
Thompson's Buddy Cole is probably neck-and-neck with McKinney's Chicken Lady in terms of iconic KITH characters. Here's my fave Cole sketch (wherein Buddy coaches a lesbian softball team)...
...and this is my favorite Chicken Lady sketch. McKinney's great, but watch Foley in the moments before he loses his shit. Fassbender-saying-perfection.gif.
Anyway, there's five seasons of this out there for you to discover. Watch it on YouTube, buy the series DVD set, buy single eps on Amazon - whatever you gotta do, get familiar with KIDS IN THE HALL. This is comedy history, and no less funny today than it was 25 years ago.
