The outcome of @Kik’s fight with the SEC is going to be pivotal for #crypto regulation in the US: google.com/amp/s/www.coin…
With words like the below, @Kik looks really ready to fight:

“the Commission will not and cannot demonstrate that Kin in and of itself or any specific sale or distribution of Kin fall within the purview of the federal securities laws”

Allowing it to go to court is risky for the SEC, as the outcome becomes a wildcard.

If a settlement happens, then it may happen that the SEC says $KIN is no longer a security, but slaps @Kik w/ a fine for the original issuance.
IMO such a settlement would be a win for the #crypto industry, because w/ $KIN as the example many tokens with current utility (that ICO’d in 2017) could breathe more easily that they’re unlikely to be securities, and thus buidling could continue full steam ahead.
But I’m no lawyer so take it all with a grain of salt.

If @facebook’s stablecoin goes the private blockchain route it will be to #crypto what @Microsoft’s Internet Explorer was to the Internet.
If @facebook instead chooses to fully embrace public blockchains from day one (either building their own, or atop another), we will see an explosion of Web 2.0 companies doing the same.
Either way this happens, bc in the world of networks, the power of permissionless, bottom-up innovation always overwhelms permissioned, top-down innovation.

$FB could just be the catalyst, helping itself & many Web 2.0 companies to avoid mistakes of days past.

1/ Crypto’s not seeing mainstream user traction, but it is seeing mainstream developer traction, and the developers are the precursors to the users.
2/ Devs are adopting crypto earlier because the “can’t-be-evil” of cryptonetworks matters more to them than it does to the user.
3/ Many mainstream devs have already been burned by building on centralized platforms that cut access for competitive reasons.

While some users have experienced such loss of access, they tend to be users that operate more on a societal fringe, not the mainstream.

1/ In the last bear market, telling someone you worked in the #bitcoin industry still drew blank stares.

In this bear market, telling someone you work in #crypto elicits some kind of reaction, good or bad.
2/ And so while #crypto is no longer the darling of mainstream conversation (leading to the observation below👇), it nonetheless lays latent in the majority's mind.
3/ When I get into deeper discussions about #crypto with people not from the industry, I'm finding myself pleasantly surprised at how often it's assumed to be an inevitable "next big thing."

The Facebook stablecoin (if it works, scales, gets deployed and adopted by non-Facebook companies, doesn’t get regulated into dust) is going to be a massive game-changer for the financial services industry. Fight me.
Hell, even if Facebook is able to make a credible run at deploying the thing, it will give them huge leverage with their banking relationships. No more closed (to FB) instant networks like Zelle, reduced transaction fees, etc.
Summary of the comments: (1) a bunch of people seem to think asset-backed stablecoins won’t be allowed by regulators, or that people won’t use/trust them. That horse has already bolted. google.com/amp/s/www.coin…

-Schools would only be held accountable to dealing with assaults that occur on campus. So any reports that occur off campus or in frat houses have to go through Atlanta Police Department.
