"Mansplaining" poll results, below:

Some commenters argued it's not just about the gender ratio of the behavior - it's about the motivation behind the behavior (i.e., a man assuming an explanation is necessary *because* he's talking to a woman).

... but if the ratio of mansplaining wasn't that unbalanced, like 2:3 women to men, then it would seem weird to assume that all the men who do it are motivated by gender. (Since, if it wasn't a gendered phenomenon at all, we would still see 2 men doing it for every 2 women)

So even if we say it's all about the motive, we still have to infer people's motive, and the appropriate inference to make seems like it depends on the gender ratio.
