My second short thread for the day (sorry if neither side finds Brexit ammunition in their for hitting each other over the head): an erroneous point by @StefaanDeRynck and @anandMenon1 concerning federal systems and secession clauses (thread)
@StefaanDeRynck @anandMenon1 Many (I’d like to say most if not all, but this is twitter and I cannot go through all federal constitutions in the world right now) federal constitutions do not have an secession clause. In fact, secession for them is illegal.
@StefaanDeRynck @anandMenon1 There is of course the US. No secession clause. In fact, the US Supreme Court ruled that secession was illegal in Texas v. White (1869). Of course, it took the civil war to actually prevent it. openjurist.org/74/us/700
