THREAD - In 2015 in the run up to the Labour leadership election @JeremyCorbyn gave an interview to @AsaWinstanley of Electronic @intifada. Corbyn argued that EU support for Israel is because of the Holocaust & that as the older generation dies he hopes things will change
“There is a general view amongst older people all across Europe that the Jewish people suffered so abominably, so vile was the Holocaust and all that went with it that the establishment of the state of Israel was the right thing to do"
In 2011 Corbyn attempted to change the name of Holocaust Memorial Day (@HMD_UK) to Genocide Memorial Day. If you're Corbyn, the weakening of the memory of the Holocaust is a good thing as it would be good for Palestine. jewishnews.timesofisrael.com/corbyn-led-mot…
Note that Tom Bower's writes in his new bio of @jeremycorbyn (extract of which was published in the @JewishChron) Corbyn "dismissed the effect of the Holocaust to explain the Jewish people’s longing for a return to their own country" thejc.com/comment/analys…
A few days before interviewing Corbyn @asawinstanley wrote "the suicide bombings of the 1990s and 2000s were a reaction to Israel’s systematic killings of Palestinians civilians, and a desire to strike back at the oppressor" asawinstanley.com/2015/07/the-de…
Winstanley has argued since 2013 that complaints around antisemitism in the Labour Party are merely a smear, he sat with Corbyn in 2013 & declared the need to "push back" against complaints of antisemitism
