EXCLUSIVE: Disgraced FBI Officials Claimed ‘Insurance Policy’ Text Was About Whether To ‘Burn Longstanding Sources’ dailycaller.com/2019/02/22/str… via @dailycaller
Lisa Page and Peter Strzok offered a detailed explanation of their "insurance policy" text message. Both claimed to Congress that they were debating whether to ramp up Crossfire Hurricane at the risk of exposing a "very sensitive" source.
Lisa Page said the source was a "longstanding" source. She also said FBI officials were worried that opening the source up to exposure might hurt future Russia-related investigations, though not so much the Trump probe.
So question is -- who was the source? The three publicly ID'd so far are Steele, Downer and Halper. Downer is most interesting possibility, since he's the only of the 3 who hasn't been established as a longtime FBI source.
Strzok has claimed he didn't know about Steele's dossier until a month after the "insurance policy" text. But Strzok had interviewed Downer in early August 2016. FBI seemingly deployed Halper as early as July 2016.
