I started crying tonight while attempting to thank the handful of professors at @miamiuniversity who made Oxford survivable for me as a young black queer woman. They were all in the room for my keynote. I felt so loved & held. If only 18 year old me could have seen it...
As part of my keynote I told the students of color & queer students in the room things I wish someone had told me: This campus is yours. It’s as much yours as any legacy or kid whose parents are paying for their full tutition. You belong here as much as anyone else....
I also wanna say: You deserve to feel safe & accepted. You deserve to learn w/out violence. You deserve to make mistakes & grow safely. This is your campus. Fight for your right to be here as your full self. Oxford never felt like home to me, but tonight it did, at least a little
