Alright, we're gonna start the thread but keep in mind I'm eating and also watching something so IT MIGHT BE SLOW don't yell at me, thanks. #LainaReadsAnne
#LainaReadsAnne June ends and with it does Miss Stacy's time in Avonlea. Diana says it feels like "the end of everything". Aww. She'll be returning to school next year, but Anne won't if all goes well.
#LainaReadsAnne Anne is convinced she won't do well even though she did great in Mss Stacy's practice exams, which were very hard.
#LainaReadsAnne Miss Stacy has some great advice. She tells them not to open a book at all before the exams (a multi-day affair they'll have to stay in Charlottetown for). She says it'll only "tire and confuse" them.
#LainaReadsAnne She advises them to take walks, not think about the exams at all, and go to bed early.

Easier said than done, but good advice.
#LainaReadsAnne Recap of what Queen's Academy is - it's a teacher's college, which you attend to get a teacher's licence, or to be eligible for higher education. To go to a university like Redmond or McGill, you have to attend one.
#LainaReadsAnne Queen's wasn't real, but it is a fictional version of real schools.
#LainaReadsAnne Anne will be staying with Aunt Josephine while she's in town, and of course, she writes to Diana while she's gone. Anne's letter talks all about how much she wishes Diana was there with her.
#LainaReadsAnne Miss Stacy came to town with them. Obviously she's not allowed to stay during the exams, but she walks them there and tries to ease their nerves.
#LainaReadsAnne By the time Anne comes home, she's still pretty sure she didn't pass, but she's proud she did the exam anyways. It'll still be at least two weeks before the results are posted.
#LainaReadsAnne There's apparently a bet between Jimmy Glover and Ned Write on who will come first, Anne or Gilbert. All of "Avonlea junior" is wondering, too.
#LainaReadsAnne Privately, Anne would rather not pass at all than be beat by Gilbert Blythe. They continue to ignore each other and Anne continues to regret that.
#LainaReadsAnne Of course, she really wants to "pass high" for Marilla and Matthew - especially Matthew. He is sure she'll "beat the entire Island". Anne doesn't think she'll do that well, but she wants to hit the top ten for him.
#LainaReadsAnne Poor Anne, Jane, Ruby, and Josie Pye basically stalk the post office every day after the two weeks passes. Charlie Sloane and Gilbert Blythe do as well sometimes, but Moody Spurgeon is too anxious.

I can't get over that name, also.
#LainaReadsAnne Three weeks go by with no news. Mrs Rachel gets angry at the superintendent of education for being a Tory (LOL) AND Matthew actually beings to wonder "if he hadn't better vote Grit at the next election" as Anne fades
#LainaReadsAnne Real talk, Matthew Cuthbert is the most supportive grandpa. If anyone writes me that queer Anne retelling*, you have 100% supportive Matthew. No question of it.

(*Or pays me to write queer Anne, that would so be fun, lol.)
#LainaReadsAnne One, Matthew Cuthbert literally doesn't judge anything other people do as long as it doesn't hurt Anne. Matthew is the ultimate "you do you". Two, he would legit change the world for that girl. Quietly, stubbornly, but he would do it for her.
#LainaReadsAnne The news comes at a rare quiet moment as Anne's gazing out her window at the beautiful twilight and just... breathing. She sees Diana flying down towards Green Gables with a newspaper in her hand.

She completely freezes.
#LainaReadsAnne Diana flies through the house without even knocking and yells that Anne passed! Best, she passed FIRST. She and Gilbert tied, but her name was first on the list.

It takes Anne half a dozen matches to light the lamp to look at the paper herself.
#LainaReadsAnne Diana's father brought the paper home from Bright River and she rushed right over to tell Anne the news, first thing.

Nice, Mr Barry. You know, I don't think he gets a lick of dialogue in the book, but he seems decent.
#LainaReadsAnne Every one of Miss Stacy's Queen's studens passed. Moody Spurgeon is 'conditioned in history" and Josie "just scraped through with three marks to spare" but the others did well.

Anne is stunned. She actually can't put the words togeter to express how happy she is.
#LainaReadsAnne Her firt though is to tell Matthew. He's in the hayfield "before the barn" and luckily Marilla and Mrs Rachel happen to be talking at the lane gate close by.
#LainaReadsAnne You know, Mrs Rachel can be a busybody, but she is a good friend to Marilla and Matthew. She checks in on them to make sure they're doing okay a lot.
#LainaReadsAnne Of course, Matthew is delighted and Marilla tries to "hide her extreme pride in Anne from Mrs Rachel's critical eye". She simply says that Anne's "done pretty well".
#LainaReadsAnne But Mrs Rachel says "she has done well, and far be it for me to be backwards in saying it. You're a credit to your friends, Anne, that's what, and we're all proud of you".

My heart <3
#LainaReadsAnne We close the chapter with Anne saying a heartfelt prayer of gratitude, and you know a lot of the religious stuff isn't my thing, but it does show how utterly happy Anne is and I always appreciate THAT.
