ICYMI: the Department of Homeland Security announced this last year and when some of us called it fascist, some of you yelled at us that we didn’t know what “fascist” meant.

2/ this community shields itself from criticism is by portraying anyone who shines a light on its internecine unpersoning/career-wrecking campaigns as a "harasser," a "stalker," or whatever other scary term is entirely inappropriate to describe, well, reading and responding to
3/to things that people have chosen to publicly post to social media. Don't give them ammo by sticking your noses into their feeds.

If you aren't a frequent visitor to DevOps Twitter, you may not be aware that @nicolefv is a badass researcher with a new book coming out that people frequently credit her male collaborators with instead
The book is called Accelerate and, as you can see, Dr Forsgren's name is first, because she is the main author. Yet I have watched multiple people (men) repeatedly skip over her name when praising the book.

Two days later, everyone is sick of the @michelleisawolf #WHCD takes. So I thought I'd drive right into the abyss, go long, and look at how the routine is structured. I've been a fan for a long time; that will be obvious. This will take 3 days.
I want to highlight 3 things: voice, pacing, contempt. Even this insanely long thread doesn't get at everything going on in the routine—the eye work is great—but if this was the last #WHCD, the even deserves an epic sendoff, S/Z style.
1. The first remark draws attention to the room, and immediately conveys her sense that the event is BAD. It's in what I'll call normal voice—the voice she uses to seemingly step out of the performance. That voice speaks in monosyllables and simple syntax.

Okay, so I need to talk to you about something. Something I committed to being more open about a few years back. Living with anxiety. This is the ‘launching a book whilst having an anxiety disorder’ thread.
So the last couple of weeks I have barely been on Twitter, just popping in occasionally to RT a nice mention or two, or reply to people. This isn’t the way I like to use Twitter. I wasn’t being very social.
As today approached, I was aware of an increasing pressure building: I should be online more. I should be more social. I have a book coming out soon! No-one will know about it! Work harder! Promote! And of course the subtext here was: You are failing.
