Liberty Crypto Reader #2 - Twitter Edition.

Welcome back to your weekly dispatch from the front lines of the battle for the future.

This week, #LNTrustChain makes it to Iran; states gettin’ surveil-ly; CBDCs for days and a lesson in liberty and social scalability. Thread 👇
2/ And with that, the Lightning torch has made its way to Iran. After many attempts, @Ziya_Sadr received the torch and claimed it a victory for a community that has been ‘censored from both sides’
3/ One of the best takes on the #LNTrustChain landing in Tehran came from @mikejcasey, who called it “the most important economic-social experiment to occur in crypto land since the early days of bitcoin.” We agree!
4/ Over the last couple weeks, one of the most discussed events in crypto was Coinbase’s acquisition of Neutrino, who shared leadership with the notoriously anti-liberty Hacking Team. Crypto Twitter was not having it.
5/ The crazy thing was...it worked. While we can debate how much it was CT outrage, mainstream coverage, or internal pressure that led it to happen, @brian_armstrong announced that the execs associate with Hacking Team would be leaving the company. blog.coinbase.com/living-up-to-o…
6/ Seriously, all cynicism aside, I agree big time with this take from @MartyBent. Participation in Bitcoin and crypto don’t just need but basically demand we hold companies in this space accountable. This was a win. us16.campaign-archive.com/?u=67eb93253df…
7/ Another big bit o’ news this week came when it broke that Facebook’s blockchain team was talking to exchanges. One of the most interesting takes on this came from @alexstamos, who wrote about the challenging tightrope of balancing privacy and safety.
8/ Surveillance State Roundup:

+Google refusing to take down a Saudi app that allows tracking of women:

+@DoveyWan on hackability of China surveillance

+WeChat map add on for locating deadbeat debtors
9/ Speaking of the role of states, here’s a #NarrativeWatch: central bank digital curre ncies, CBDCs, crypto-fiat - states using crypto tools to launch national cryptos, and is something that some have identified as a major human rights battleground
10/ Over this pass week, @Melt_Dem and @jillruth_ released a @WGMGpodcast all about CBDCs that they called “Initial Country Offerings.” It’s one of the best starting points on the topic - highly recommended.
11/ There’s much more in the full version of LCR2, but as always, I want to hear from you guys: what stories of privacy vs. surveillance, governments behaving badly or crypto around the world did I miss? coinmine.com/blogs/liberty/…
12/ Lastly, for those of who are reading the Liberty Crypto Reader for the first time, it’s a collaboration between myself and the awesome crew at @Coinmine. We just kicked it off and you can read why here: coinmine.com/blogs/liberty/…
