One of the most bizarre/unspoken aspects of the Pirro Islamophobia is that she was raised Lebanese-American, not Italian American (her ex is Italian). To a base that includes some Arab haters, the distinction between Lebanese Christians and Lebanese Muslims may be lost. 1/
But the Lebanese-American Christian/Muslim divide is real, even mirroring the hostilities that led that country into a tragic civil war. I know. It’s my people too. We are minority Catholic sect Melkite. (Maronite Church is larger, better known. Both are Eastern Catholic) 2/
I’ve written before of these lingering biases. My situ once complained to me about a headline that described me as Arab American. She wanted me to call headline writer and tell him “I’m not Arab, I’m Lebanese.” 3/
Anyway, Pirro’s anti Islam stance is clear from the record. Ironic may not be word to describe it. Just horrifying that she so easily denigrates someone much more similar to her in background than the audience she is trying to stir up. 4/4
