Our next speaker is Cybelle Ledez who'll share with #DR19 how she's centred her design practice around the UN Sustainable Development guidelines in order to move the dial.
Correction: UN Sustainable Development Goals at the centre of the research practice.
Cybelle has asked us to close our eyes.

Imagine it's 2030, you've been doing a lot of work over the last decade, some of it is education, energy or healthcare. The design research you're doing is having an impact and it's helping shift the Sustainability Goals. Where are you?
.@ThinkPlace has taken the 17 sustainable development goals and made it their north star guiding how they work.
It's important and complex.

And it's been a journey for ThinkPlace to get to where they are today.
Cybelle is the Lead for Sustainable Environment.

There are 4 leads who look at how they connect the principles in the projects they work on.

If any piece of work comes through to ThinkPlace they question which SDG (sustainable development goal) it aligns to
So how do we ensure we're going on the journey we need to with the people when need to speak with.
With all of the techniques and processes sometimes the simple approach yields the best return.
The government came to ThinkPlace to find out how they could better engage with the Norfolk Island community.
When they began talking to the community last year there were concerns about what approach they would take to begin the engagement.

They decided the Natural Systems Exploratory Approach.

Cybelle wanted to go into the community and understand how they engage within.
The administrator of Norfolk Island were nervous around the engagement with ThibkPlace because they thought they were coming to talk about talking.
Cybelle had found out her connection did yoga and so she asked to start by attending a yoga class with him and just talk to the group. Something clicked and he began asking if she wanted to speak to the gardening club, bowls club and leagues club which she said Of Course!
When they were able to get out on the ground they did some pop ups but also attended a lot of other organised meetings they didn't run. It was important to go and see how people engage with each other.
How do you work together to evolve your research plan as you learn I community.
Apologies missed the middle of this talk! Will continue on!
ThinkPlace worked on Family Safety Hub, they used exploratory and generative research pivoting from original intent to deliver and approach based on insights.

The SDG were 10, 5, 16, 3
Their focus was on finding new ways to listen and share.
It's still ongoing and there's an acknowledgement that it's a base they have to continue to build upon
What are some of the challenges you experience when using the SDG's
How do they keep developing their own principles
What are some of the ABC's of all the design research projects at ThinkPlace
