Chris Steele used an article from “CNN iReports” to “verify” one of his dossier memos alleging Webzilla hacked the DNC

Except “iReports” are posted by the public & not vetted, fact checked or screened before posting

**Which he could have found out by clicking “About”**

THREAD
This is from Steele’s partially unsealed deposition in the Webzilla/Gubarev case

Steele is asked how he verified “raw intelligence” he received about Gubarev/XBT/Webzilla hacking the DNC

He says he used a July 2009 “article” from CNN iReports
Steele is asked if he knows that the article he’s using has no connection to any real CNN reporters. “I do not”
“I, obviously, presume that if it is on a CNN site that it has some kind of CNN status” — Chris Steele
Here’s the archived 2010 CNN iReport “About” Page:

“THE STORIES HERE NOT EDITED FACT-CHECKED OR SCREENED BEFORE THEY POST”

Steele used an internet article as “verification” without even bothering to click About to find out how credible it was, “presuming” it had CNN status 🙄
REMINDER: An “official in the US (Obama) administration” described Steele as “meticulous” and “consistently reliable” in an anonymous quote to The Guardian newspaper on Jan 10 2017
Oh and this memo repeated the claim that Michael Cohen (and 3 colleagues) were in Prague making “deniable” payments so that DNC hackers would “lay low”

But don’t worry, I’m sure he “verified” THAT with real sources rather than random articles off the internet 🤔
—👆
—Cohens wife born in Russian
—“Alpha” Bank
—Cohen & 3 others in Prague
—Manafort leading “conspiracy”
—DNC hackers based in E Europe
—Trump Pee tape
—Flynn
—Page/Kremlin sanctions bribe

Luckily nothing has been debunked or I’d be worried about the dossiers credibility
