I've been pretty impressed with @BBCScotNine since its launch, but their insistence today on wanting to put a hard right climate denial lobby group on air to discuss the #ClimateStrike was a serious mis-step. [thread]

Some people say we should go on air, and debate these people. This would be like going on TV with Tommy Robinson to debate the Christchurch shootings. The climate crisis is a planetary emergency, it's killing people and it threatens our entire living world.
Giving a platform to those who deliberately undermine trust in the science, who lie and dissemble to protect the vested interest of industries which profit from causing this crisis is not reasonable, not ethical, and not journalism. It's propaganda for a death cult.
So @BBCScotNine's insistence on this approach left them with no proper coverage of the most hopeful piece of real news we've seen for a very long time. It's deeply disappointing, and I urge them to reconsider this approach for the future.
We urgently need debate about action in the face of this crisis; about the changes that are needed in our society, our economy, and our politics. We do not need anti-science fossil fuel industry shills being taken seriously by our media. Let's get this right next time. #TheNine
