When my youngest girl wanted to be a Daisy Girl Scout there were no troops open to new members, so she was a "Juliette" scout (kinda like homeschooling) and I was her Girl Scout leader for a full year. We tried to do EVERYTHING: science experiments, field trips, cookie sales...
We pretty much succeeded! 😅 She and I look back at that year as one of the best years ever.
I earned a few patches, too! This is the NASA field test uniform from 2010. HT @AstronautAbby

2/ I study rocket exhaust and how it interacts with planets' surfaces and atmosphere. There is a lot of interesting physics in this. Note how this rocket plume gets narrower right after it leaves the nozzle. That's because it comes out at lower pressure than the surrounding air.
3/ The job of the rocket nozzle is to expand the plume. If the nozzle is too small, then the plume is underexpanded, so it gets bigger right after leaving the nozzle. Here's an underexpanded plume from the Apollo Saturn V 2nd stage. See how it flares wider?

I'm convinced politicians (& the public they respond to) don't grasp the real value of space. They think it's a demonstration of national grandeur ("flags & footprints") plus pure science, and, deriving from that, an opportunity for jobs ("pork"). Smh, this is so deficient. /1
2/ The real value of space is that our civilization has reached the cusp of leaping beyond the boundaries of a single planet, so economic activity is on the verge of moving into space. Space will be the extended home of civilization. Everything we do is going to involve space.
3/ This seems like crazy talk to people (e.g., politicians) who can't afford to spend all day thinking about technology and how it is changing the world. But there ARE people who get paid to study space tech & economics all day. What we're trying to tell the politicians is...

The Fermi Paradox ("by now this should be a Star Wars galaxy with ETs communicating and visiting all the time, but instead there is silence") is deepened by our rapid advances in space robotics tech, putting us just a few decades away from doing what ET doesn't seem to be doing.
Our own rapid growth of technology deepens the Fermi Paradox in two ways. First, it shows that it isn't so hard to create self replicating robotic spacecraft that can spread thru the ENTIRE galaxy in about 10 million years, a mere blink of the eye. So where are they? Second.../2
3/ Second, it shows we are just decades away from escaping the limits of a single planet, diversifying our cosmic habitat. This will reduce risk of extinction from things like asteroid impact or nuclear war. This undermines a possible explanation for the Fermi Paradox.

If Success Rate is 0.5 and Reward Risk 2, Then

Expectancy = 2 x 0.5 =1

For Making Profit, Expectancy Should Be Positive Number (2/n)

#New PA cong. map increases D chance of winning the House majority by 4%. They only need a 6.8% generic ballot margin now (down from 7.7) to be favored.

Diff. will be closer to 10% in Nov when uncertainty from polls is ⬇️. Redraw is a very big deal.

One major reason the new PA map is such a big gain for Democrats is that it solidifies, not just tips, PA districts in Philly burbs. Also creates one additional vulnerable R district. (Easily seen in this map made by @JMilesColeman)
My forecasting model will have new PA map in the near future. This is not just a simple switch; it’s a coding redesign, restructuring of input, & drawing new geographic files. Takes a while (for me, a student).
