Reflecting on a few recent trips out of the Brexit twitter bubble it really isn't true that everyone is now a partisan on one side or other - understanding and interest remains low among many people, though people want it sorted
What it means for the next few weeks - yes there will be lots of upset people whichever way forward is found. But there will be a lot of people just happy a way forward has been found, leadership shown. Partisans always overestimate political interest.
Ok, maybe strange thing to say when millions signed a petition and hundreds of thousands will march. But millions feeling passionate does not millions are not, and neither are right or wrong

I've been posting this Brexit options table for a few days now, but without any narrative. As we almost certainly approach indicative votes of some sort or other, what are the key messages MPs should know? 1/
Most obvious, as you move away from membership and associated 'costs' such as payments and freedom of movement, you lose certain access rights like decision making, selling services, frictionless trade, but gain access to your own trade deals. You can't have everything 2/
We also learn that any future relationship is not cut and dried. Most notably no off the shelf model can solve the Irish border problem, and the extent of access to / say in EU goods and services markets after Brexit would need to be negotiated 3/

There's been lots of talk including from the PM of showing how the next phase of Brexit talks could be conducted differently if her deal passes, to help it do so. Yet no real proposals. How difficult would that have been?
We are left to conclude the PM has no intention of doing anything differently, in which case the suggestion otherwise is actually counter-productive. She thinks her way was perfect, or perhaps doesn't want to admit the deal doesn't provide the certainty she claimed it did?
So we now see the PM practically begging MPs to pass her deal, but only for the certainty of kicking the can into the next phase, having left the EU. Not helped by those saying her deal might be ok without her, which also makes little actual sense.

My most minority Brexit view. When the EU say the Withdrawal Agreement can't be changed this is shorthand for not changing the Irish backstop without the UK changing red lines. It is not to be taken literally of the entire text.
Of course since the UK subsequently burned all negotiating capital in trying to change the Irish backstop without changing red lines, it is probably literally the case for the moment that the WA will not change. But that is not the same as saying it couldn't happen.
My more familiar lament is that since hardly anyone has read the whole Withdrawal Agreement, still less analysed what it means, we are several months after it was unveiled not particularly the wiser. Which is typical of our lax approach thus far to negotiations.

Mass media is taking its lead from the loudest voices with the most money. Oversimplifying and exaggerating the voices and agenda of key players who represent the richest and most powerful.

If we had cut through the irresponsible lies of #Brexit leaders & if people had realised what we now know, that all Brexits make us poorer & weaker for at least 10 years

Does anyone *really* think Leave would have won?
Never mind "the public didn't believe project fear", this is reality and yes, for many people they don't care about economic impacts

But not 52% - 52% did not believe we would be poorer & weaker and voted Leave anyway

Leave would never have won & would never win again if the public knew the reality of #Brexit

The only strategy they have is to lie that WTO/crash out/no deal is perfectly acceptable & reasonable & mislead people with "World Trade Deal" bullshit

One way or another a British prime minister will sign the NI backstop. Either it will be May as part of a negotiated exit deal or by someone else after we crash out when the EU is calling all the shots and demanding all its own terms.

Should we crash out then if even half of no deal warnings are true (and there is plenty evidence to suggest they are) then UK has zero leverage of any kind and will simply have to concede to whatever the EU puts on the table just to reopen talks - as no deal cannot stay no deal.
There is really no way to avoid a backstop of some sort. A review clause is the best we can hope for. The best strategy is to sign it then make damn sure it never gets activated by joining Efta and retaining the EEA. The remaining issues are then far simpler to resolve.

The attempt to crush the #PeoplesVote initiative from Corbyn's team should ring alarm bells for anyone who values democracy
& transparency, inside Labour or outside. He is and will always be an authoritarian

2) you can argue back and forth on whether a #PeoplesVote is strategically good, bad or horrendous for Labour, or that Corbyn's offer to work with the Tories on #Brexit is "political theatre". The fact is the new Labour position is the exact opposite of what the members wanted
3) the reality is, 150 local parties submitted motions and the overwhelming majority supported a people's vote with an option to remain.

That has somehow completely transformed into a Labour offer to compromise the 6 tests for a Tory led Brexit

 Thread to explain why, strange as this sounds, (& many still don't get this!) - there are no hard Brexit MPs. Even Mogg & Johnson are kind of soft brexiters. Both wanted frictionless trade with EU & no real economic change.

So what happened?

 What Mogg, Johnson & rest wanted was a "soft Brexit on UK Terms". They were so sure this would happen that they barely considered what wld happen if there "hard Brexit talk" didn't result in a "soft Brexit on UK terms".

Thus the fight is not btwn hard & soft Brexit but btwn..
3/ the fight now is btwn those that want to accept reality of situation: that the longed for soft Brexit occurs on EU terms not UKs - and those that are "winging it" for something they never actually wanted & do not yet understand but have talked themselves into...
