So I see we are back discussing Art. XXIV Agreements. Now in the form of “we leave, sign an agreement that gives us a good transition period, negotiate an FTA and voilà - all is Hunkey Dory” (thread)
Let’s start with the good: YES. This is how Art. XXIV GATT is used: you reach a trade agreement. Son we have moved one step. But now let’s include negotiations 101.
Negotiations 101 tells you that negotiations includes thinking about how the other side will behave. So we have just told the EU stuff the deal that we have negotiated where the sun don’t shine. We don’t believe in the need for a NI backstop. Also: forget money.
And then we say: but you know what: here’s a deal that preserves the status quo. Yes. That was also in previous deal. But this one is without the bits we don’t like.
